This type of equipment offers an alternative to the time consuming "fax film" processes for "viewing" cylinder bore surfaces. Click on the thumbnail images to see larger photos. We offer custom solutions based around the customer's needs and budget with the following general classifications for cylinder bore inspection equipment ;
360 View™ Series/Porosity Check -360 View™ Series/Porosity Check Provides an operator a 360 Degree View of a band of the bore in a single view. The Porosity Check™ SIGHT-PIPE® style uses this same principle but adds a "gage dot" reticle to the end of the SIGHT-PIPE® to allow the operator to use it as a comparison between a suspected defect and the known gage dot size. Minimal clearance between the 360 View™ Series SIGHT-PIPE® gage and the cylinder liner wall is critical to obtain the highest resolution and greatest uniformity of the image. This style is great for quickly "scanning" the complete bore in one pass for larger defects. Back to Top
Uses traditional SIGHT-PIPE® with custom hone pattern limits etched into the SIGHT-PIPE® "window" surface. Uses our standard fiber optic illuminator with adjustable intensity control. Least expensive, quickest and easiest to use, but does not give actual angular readout. Design changes in cylinder crosshatch angular specifications could obsolete the gage. Designed to be used on one size bore. Magnification is the lowest of all Crosshatch Inspection gages at approximately 3X-5X fixed magnification. Back to Top
Basic Measuring Crosshatch Gage -
Basic Measuring Crosshatch Gage-Uses a microscope style approach where an operator looks through an eyepiece, manipulates a series of four knobs and arrives at an actual measured value in degrees by aligning two reticles and reading a graduated radial scale. Uses our standard fiber optic illuminator with adjustable intensity control. Designed to be used on one size bore. Fixed magnification is typically about 20x. Design changes in angular specifications will not obsolete the gage. Operators can take measured values and adjust their equipment and process more accurately. This gaging process takes longer than the Basic Crosshatch Limit gage and gives an operator a much higher magnified view of the cylinder wall surface. This style is not currently available with a CCTV option.Back to Top
CCTV Zoom View™ System-Uses a camera and Zoom lens system with detents (stops) to allow the operator to view the bore surfaces at a number of different preset magnifications. The detents are typically set to produce a required magnification when the image is transmitted to a specific video or computer monitor "frame" size or output to a "hard copy" size via a device such as a laser, video or ink jet printer. Images appear on a CCTV monitor and can be "printed" to a laser, ink jet printer or high speed video printer, recorded on a VCR or captured and stored by other electronic means. This system utilizes two separate, distinct, adjustable light paths for highlighting numerous features of the cylinder wall surface area. Two knobs located on the top of the gage allow the operator a quick and easy way of changing the zoom (magnification) setting and fine focusing the image as necessary. Durable handles located on both sides of the gage provide a sturdy and well balanced means of positioning the gage within the cylinder quickly and easily with little effort. Back to Top
CCTV Zoom View™ Measuring System -
CCTV Zoom View™ Measuring System -Uses a Zoom lens system with detents (stops) to allow the operator to view the bore surfaces at a number of different magnifications while measuring Crosshatch via a modified video gage with a keyboard and dial positioner. These magnifications can range from an ideal lower magnification setting for measuring crosshatch to a high power magnification for viewing the details of the wall surface. Images appear on a CCTV monitor and can be "printed" to a laser, ink jet printer or high speed video printer or recorded on a VCR. Images cannot be stored electronically for quick comparisons to past or present conditions with this system. Text may be added to video "prints" but it can be somewhat awkward to use this slower process. Date & Time stamping can be used with the video printer. The measuring sequence may not be as easily accomplished due to the "dial" type positioning knobs for moving the cursor about in the X and Y-axis. CCTV monitor and equipment is more at risk in open "floor" type environment. Enclosure is recommended. Requires a more technically skilled operator capable of using computer-like gaging and testing equipment. Back to Top
CCTV Zoom View™ Measuring System Visual Database CCTV Zoom View™ Measuring System Visual Database-Uses a Zoom lens system (same as above) with detents (stops) to allow the operator to view the bore surfaces at a number of different magnifications while measuring Crosshatch and STORING the information via special database software. Software can automatically store the image of the bore along with data (fields) including; record number (automatic), date & time (automatic), operator comments field, 4 other operator definable fields and the measured Angle C (included angle). Records (both visual images & data) can be recalled through "queries" on the data fields. (example;. find "changed stones" in the "Comments" field. Anywhere the operator had typed the notes "changed stones" would then be grouped allowing you to view those records or conduct further recursive searches from that group (of the "changed stones" records- FIND all > 65 degrees.)) The system uses two printers, one video printer and one laser printer that allow the operator to print a record with the database information in a variety of stored report formats. Operators can place stored images side by side for comparison. The laser printing process is typically slower and will take longer to produce reports. Modem support and software is provided so images/information can be shared between plants/locations with the same imaging equipment. Equipment requires a much larger enclosure. This system requires very technically skilled, conscientious operators capable of using and maintaining more complex computer gaging and testing equipment. Training on the software is mandatory. This is the most comprehensive and expensive Cylinder bore inspection gage we currently offer. The same software system is used by the various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces for inspecting, repairing and maintaining records on government equipment (planes, tanks, etc.) Back to Top Contact us or your local representative about building a Cylinder Bore Wall inspection device.
