YOU ARE HERE > HOME >WHAT IS A SIGHT-PIPE? A SIGHT-PIPE® (in it's simplest form) is a special one-piece right angle prism (similar to a borescope in theory) that reflects an image 90 degrees while at the same time transmitting light to the object being inspected. One of it's most common uses is to view internal objects and or surfaces. Other uses are described on one of our "Applications" pages.
The "hour glass" shape of the SIGHT-PIPE® head is designed to gather ambient room lighting and/or collect light via a handheld light source or light input adapter and "pipe" it back down to the object being inspected. The radius ("dome") on the top of the head of the SIGHT-PIPE® acts as a lens and gives the SIGHT-PIPE® it's magnification. Most SIGHT-PIPES® bend the object image and illumination at a right angle (90 Degrees). We also have the capability to design and build SIGHT-PIPES® that view at other angles (45 Degrees for example) for special internal angled holes, pockets, lands etc. Some examples of how a SIGHT-PIPE® is used to inspect a sample part can be found on our "Applications" page or you may choose to find out more about a particular product from our "Products" page. Although your part may not be of the exact same type as those shown, the principle described may still suit your application.
