a question that's not listed? Ask it here.
Do you accept credit cards and/or handle international "wire transfers"?
Yes-We accept the
following credit cards; American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, and Visa.

Yes-We can typically
arrange to accept "wire transfer" of funds from international customers---but we
recommend you use a distributor in your region to save on shipping and
additional bank wire transfer fees typically charged by both our bank and
your bank for this service.

- The
inside diameter (bore size) of the part I would like to inspect is .501/.500". Will
your Regular Series .500" SIGHT-PIPE® fit this bore size?
Yes, the diameters listed are for NOMINAL sizes for the SIGHT-PIPE®
shank. The actual shank sizes are typically .008-.012" smaller than the
nominally listed dia. to allow for clearance between the SIGHT-PIPE® and your piece part.
In this case the actual SIGHT-PIPE® diameter would be .492/.488"

- The
diameter/length I need to inspect is not listed among your standard product size
diameter/lengths. Can you make a special diameter/length to accomodate my particular size?
Yes, Most likely. We have established a product
listing and inventory based on the most commonly ordered diameter & length ratios for
our products. We can & frequently do make custom SIGHT-PIPES® to accommodate
a
customer's specific application, but must adhere to some standard formulas regarding
length to diameter ratios etc. to provide you with the best possible image.
Contact us with your particular part details to discuss it further.Back

- What's the
smallest/largest/longest SIGHT-PIPE® you can make? The best thing to do is send us a dimensioned print of your piece part to
be inspected with a short description of the characteristic you would like to inspect. By
analyzing your part we can recommend a standard product or design & build the best
possible viewing solution for your part. We prefer good old hard copy prints but
can accept drawings via fax, or as electronic files (all CAD files should be
saved/exported as "dxf" format) via diskette or E-mail attachments etc.

- Do
I need to order the optional Light Input Adapter and an additional light
source (Portable
Illuminator, Ring light Assembly, etc. ) when using a SIGHT-PIPE® for
my part? Typically no, but....it depends on
your application. If you are using a hand held SIGHT-PIPE® to inspect a
reflective part in a well lit room you are probably going to be okay. I
recommend taking a look without one to see if it is satisfactory first. You
can always add one later if desired. Additional light sources do improve the
image you see and Lite Input Adapters do provide more consistant
light if you are checking for colors etc. Additionally, the Lite
Input Adapter is easier to use than continually trying to "hand
hold" a penlight etc. in addition to the SIGHT-PIPE®. Vision or
Sensor systems will always require addtional illumination. The
Boreview™ system has it's own illumination system built in. To learn more
about how a SIGHT-PIPE® is designed to utilize room or other
sources of illumination go to our "What IS a SIGHT-PIPE®?
How Does It Work?" page. Back

- What do I use to clean my
SIGHT-PIPE®? DO NOT USE SOLVENTS to clean a
SIGHT-PIPE®. We recommend cleaning a SIGHT-PIPE® with warm water and a liquid detergent
such as "JOY". The surfaces may then be rinsed
with warm awater and wiped dry with lens paper, soft tissue
(such as Kleenex) or cotton. Back

- My SIGHT-PIPE® is scratched
can it be repaired? Yes, most likely. We will need to
actually see your SIGHT-PIPE® to determine what can be done. Minor scratches on the
critical viewing surfaces of the SIGHT-PIPE® can be re-polished to restore the best
view. More major scratches on the critical viewing surfaces might
require re-machining those areas if possible. If you are using a
SIGHT-PIPE® for 100% inspection in a "rough" enviroment you
may want to consider adding an optional hard-coated aluminum sleeve or gage
housing like one of the 5 styles used on our Depth
Gages. These sleeves or housings are designed to further protect
the critical viewing surfaces of the SIGHT-PIPE®. Back

- Will
SIGHT-PIPES® used in the tube weld inspection process scratch the ID of the
tubes I inspect? No, they should
not. Unlike other types of borescopes, the Tube Weld has been specifically designed & manufactured to avoid
this. Since the SIGHT-PIPE® is made of plastic the possibility of scratching
the tubing is virtually nonexistent. Back

- What
is the difference between the two Regular Series SIGHT-PIPES® SP-120 and
the SP-920 (Both are listed as a .500" diameter x 4.00" in
length)? The difference is in the
magnification.
Any Regular Series SIGHT-PIPE®
with a "1" (i.e. SP-120) as the first
digit in the catalog number has no magnification while any SIGHT-PIPE® with
a "9" has magnification. Back

- Do
you have a SIGHT-PIPE®, and lighting arrangement that will mount DIRECTLY to my _XYZ
BRAND___(machine vision, camera lensing, lighting) system?
There are many factors to consider when using a SIGHT-PIPE® with any
machine vision/sensor hardware/software application. Each system (software/hardware)
and application (parts to inspect) appear to have their own unique set of variables
from lighting through positioning. We have found that the
SP-MVD or the Boreview
System (which contains it's own magnification lens & illumination system) &
the available c-mount lens adapter provide a great starting or final solution for most systems. We are
in the process of trying to work more directly with vision system manufacturers,
distributors & integrators alike to provide the best systems
possible.
Please call to discuss your application further. See question #8 also.
More challenging systems & parts may require more custom
"line of sight" solutions as found on our Machine Vision
page or please call to discuss your application further. See question #9
also. Back

- How
will a (360 Degree or Regular Series) SIGHT-PIPE® work
with a ( "XYZ brand" manufacturer/software) machine vision
system? See response to question #7 also; The 360 View Series is
most commonly used in machine vision applications due to it's ability to save the System
Integrator & customer design, tooling and fixturing costs by not having to index a
borescope or similar device radially. Special view SIGHT-PIPES® have been also been
designed, built, and used to view a variety of unusual angled areas. See our new machine vision page or please call to discuss your application
further. Back

- How do I store the SIGHT-PIPE® ? How do I keep it
protected when not in use? The SIGHT-PIPE® is
stored in one of a variety of tube storage container designs that has a
threaded cap which screws on and off to prevent the SIGHT-PIPE® from
accidently falling out. The tubes are designed to keep the critical viewing
areas safe and clean when the SIGHT-PIPE® is not in use. These tubes are
placed in a corrugated box filled with packing peanuts for shipping from our
shop to yours. Back
to top
- Can
I use a .1/4" diameter SIGHT-PIPE® to view inside a 1/2"
diameter tube?
To receive the highest quality image we
recommend using the largest diameter SIGHT-PIPE® with the
shortest possible length for the application.
- Can
you send me literature on all the stuff you guys do? We would be happy to send you more information about our products
& services--you can request them by phone, fax, and e-mail
or directly from this web site here.
A good part of what we do is very often custom designed & built to a customer's
particular inspection problem & needs. We solve inspection/quality control
problems in companies ranging in size from very large plants to small one or two man
operations, each with it's own criteria for tolerances, budgets, etc. After
30 years of solving these types of problems --the filing cabinets have grown to many--too
many products/solutions to include in printed literature or list here. What we attempt to provide in
our literature & on this web site are general solutions that may be altered and
adapted, then applied to your products. Please let us know if we can help
you.
